Workplace Visits: Insights into Careers
On 27 February 2025, the Careers Committee organized a series of engaging workplace visits for S5 students, aimed at inspiring their exploration of career opportunities and immersing them in dynamic work environments. Each S5 student had the exciting opportunity to choose their preferred workplace to visit. Divided into five groups, they embarked on visits to various locations.
At the taster workshop (投資創’錢’途) hosted by the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin), pupils passionate about the business field gained foundational knowledge in stock investment and personal finance. They also experienced the daily tasks of a bank customer service officer, such as counting cash, providing them with practical insights into the banking industry.
The taster event (“遞 ‧ 六感”) organized at the same institute invited participants interested in the Childcare, Elderly, and Community Services discipline to engage in sensory problem-solving games. Through these activities, students learned about the unique stories behind children with special education needs, gaining a deeper understanding of special childcare and inclusive education, as well as the rewarding careers in teaching and supporting these children.
At the taster workshop organized by the Department of Applied Science at Hong Kong Metropolitan University, pupils interested in Biomedical Science and Biotechnology had hands-on experiences in food testing and medical laboratory science. They conducted laboratory activities, including testing active ingredients in drugs and performing ABO and Rh blood typing, and attended a career talk that illuminated potential pathways in these fields.
Pupils who visited the Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel explored the company’s profile and the nature of the hotel industry in Hong Kong. The visit included tours of the hotel lobby, guest rooms, and restaurants, providing insights into career opportunities and entry requirements in hospitality. The experience was capped off with a career talk and a Q&A session, allowing students to engage directly with industry professionals.
Lastly, students who participated in a craft-making session at the Hong Kong Design Institute focused on ceramics. Starting with an introduction to design-related programmes and a tour, this hands-on workshop allowed students to explore their creativity and develop practical skills in this artistic discipline, providing them with a meaningful experience of vocational training.
