Part 1:
The Teacher Symposium 2021 (Joint School Staff Development Day) organized by the EDB and the Principals Association of the Government School, was held on 31st March 2021. The theme was ‘Accentuate Professional Dialogue, Empower Education Wisdom’. It was the first time teachers from 31 government secondary schools in Hong Kong joined the seminar via Zoom meetings. Teachers from Sha Tin Government Secondary School (STGSS) gathered in the school hall at 8:45 am watched a video of a welcome speech delivered by Mr Kevin Yeung Yun Hung JP, Secretary for Education. It followed by Dr Chan Kwok Ling’s keynote speech Maintaining the Well-being of Teacher’s Mind and Soul. At 11:00 am, STGSS teachers went to different classrooms to attend parallel sharing sessions held by different government secondary schools. Teachers expressed that the sharing culture has positive impacts on pedagogy and professional development. Two teachers from STGSS, Mr Tsang Siu Nam and Ms Cho Wing Tak, also hosted a seminar Learning Without a Boundary, introducing how different novel teaching tools make learning more interesting and effective for students.
Part 2:
In the afternoon, STGSS teachers gathered in the school hall for the group sharing. The teachers first sorted out the key points from the morning parallel sharing sessions and then gave a short report to the teachers of the whole school. All STGSS teachers actively participated in the event and provided detailed peer reviews.
Lastly, our Principal, Ms Lam Yuet Wah, reminded teachers to pay close attention to students’ academic progress, physical and mental health. At the same time, she also encourages all STGSS staff members to maintain work-life balance to cope with the new challenges ahead of us.
