S3 Inclusive Sports Workshop: Promoting Harmony during Life-wide Learning Days

Learning Beyond the Classroom

As a highlight of this year’s Life-wide Learning Days, our Secondary 3 students participated in a meaningful “Inclusive Sports Workshop” on March 6. To make this experience truly impactful, we were honoured to invite the Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth (HKFHY) to lead our students in a series of adaptive sports demonstrations and interactive sessions.

Organized by the Life-wide Learning and OLE Committee, this event provided a platform for students to learn through experience, moving beyond textbooks to understand social diversity in a physical and interactive way.

Sporting Without Boundaries

Under the expert guidance of the HKFHY instructors, students were introduced to the world of Paralympic and adapted sports. They had the opportunity to try:

  • Boccia: A game of extreme focus and strategic precision.
  • Sitting Volleyball: Shifting the focus from height to agility and teamwork.
  • Wheelchair Basketball: A high-energy experience challenging coordination and strength.
  • Floor Curling: A test of patience and tactical planning.

Cultivating Respect and Empathy

The core mission of this activity was to instill the values of Respect and Empathy. By participating in these sports, students gained firsthand insight into the daily lives of persons with disabilities. The experience allowed them to look beyond limitations and instead focus on the potential, rights, and contributions of every individual.

Building an Inclusive Future

Through these interactive sessions, our S3 students learned that sports are a universal language that bridges all gaps. The workshop successfully fostered a spirit of care and inclusivity, encouraging students to appreciate the unique strengths that every member of society brings to the table.
