Integrating Self-Directed Learning (SDL) with the development of core positive values, the S.4–S.5 Public Speaking Course held between 9 March and 30 April 2026 proved to be a truly transformative experience. Designed to nurture autonomous learners with a global perspective, the programme empowered students to seize the stage.
The course went the extra mile by focusing on polished prose and powerful performances, placing a significant emphasis on digital education. Utilising AI applications during the pre-writing stage, students received support in constructing persuasive speeches. Not only did this tech-assisted approach enable them to develop more compelling arguments, but it also encouraged them to move beyond conventional ideas and adopt more sophisticated rhetorical strategies. Every student had the opportunity to write and deliver a speech in class, where they applied a range of public speaking techniques to engage their audience. Through these performances, peers were inspired and persuaded to embrace the values conveyed, fostering a shared commitment to becoming lifelong learners who uphold positive values.
Acting as a springboard for the school’s Major Concerns, the course highlighted targeted values at each level. S.4 students explored empathy and leadership, while S.5 students demonstrated the grit to succeed through commitment and perseverance. Selected from the class-based heats to advance to the Inter-level Public Speaking Competition, the top performers are now poised to showcase their talents on stage. We have high hopes that they will achieve a roaring success in the final showdown, emerging as confident, capable, and competent learners ready to speak with purpose.
